Environmental Policies


Introduction


The Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) established the Environment Charter in order to perform research and development activities aiming at sustainable development to protect the beautiful planet Earth for future generations. Based on the Charter, Okinawa and Katsuura Tracking and Communication Stations (hereinafter referred to as the "Stations") have documented their environment policies here to carry out, maintain, and improve the environment control management of its operations. The documentation has been shared with all staff and contractors of the Stations, and upon request will be provided to the general public.


Outline of Operations at the Stations


The Stations are ground stations comprising of the JAXA tracking network. They set up radio frequency links with satellites to send and receive tracking data, and communicate with the Tsukuba Space Center (TKSC) via a terrestrial link.


Attitude Toward the Environment


  1. The Stations will make efforts to prevent environmental pollution and to conserve resources.
  2. In purchasing, the Stations will follow the "policy for purchasing environmentally sound products."
  3. The Stations will understand and observe the legal regulations and local treaties related to environmental matters.
  4. The Stations, in order to promote environmental management activities, will set objectives and targets, carry out various activities and conduct regular evaluation and improvements.
  5. The Stations will motivate their staff, and that of other affiliated organizations and contractors and be aware of environmental issues. They will also build ties with local communities through environmental management activities.
