Achieving Safety and Security in Asia Through Cooperation~ Disaster/Environmental Monitoring and Engineer Training Projects at JAXA ~
As a country with an advanced space program, Japan has been promoting cooperation among Asian nations through space utilization. In 1993, Japan led the establishment of the Asia-Pacific Regional Space Agency Forum (APRSAF). The international project Sentinel Asia began in 2006, with the aim of using data provided by JAXA's satellites to monitor natural disasters in the Asia-Pacific region. In 2009, Japan started the Satellite Technology for the Asia-Pacific Region (STAR) program, and the Space Application for Environment (SAFE) project, which will monitor Earth's environment from space. JAXA's aim is to contribute to environmental and disaster monitoring in the Asia-Pacific region through space utilization, and to further strengthen cooperation among Asian countries in order to achieve a safer, more secure society.
