Collaboration with Industry

JAXA provides a broad range of opportunities to industries to help private companies enter the space business, broadening the base of the aerospace industry and enhancing international competitiveness. The opportunities include programs to share our intellectual property acquired through aerospace research and experience, to allow industries to use our test facilities, to offer a system for cooperative research, and to provide launch opportunities for small secondary satellites.

Space Open Laboratory

The "Space Open Laboratory" is a system to encourage broad participation in the space business. The aerospace business will flourish on a full-scale in the near future, and the system aims at contributing to the formation and development of a prosperous society by unearthing and developing new technology and knowledge that are required for the aerospace business through the participation of a range of sectors.
Our goal is to create a space business with fresh ideas by adopting technologies, initiatives and know-how from JAXA, as well as from industries, universities and public R&D institutions with various backgrounds. Qualified participants are domestic corporative bodies or Limited Liability Partnerships.

Space Brand "JAXA COSMODE PROJECT"

The JAXA COSMODE PROJECT has been established as a product development project to deliver cutting-edge ideas born through Japanese space development to as many people as possible. We bestow the JAXA COSMODE PROJECT logo on products and services for the general public which are released as a result of a series of collaborative activities.

Inviting small secondary satellites for launch opportunities

JAXA offers easy, swift launch and operation opportunities to small satellites that are made by private companies and universities to help foster education and human resources using small satellites.

Programs using intellectual properties

JAXA has been accumulating intellectual property in broad areas through our activities in space science research, basic aerospace research and development, and the development of large-size launch vehicles including the H-IIA Launch Vehicle and a space station. We have over 800 credited patents. These aerospace technologies have been applied to various fields to contribute to realizing a safe and prosperous society. The "JAXA Intellectual Property Program" aims at promoting the use of such aerospace intellectual property in not only the aerospace field but also in other industrial areas so that they can contribute to improving people's livelihoods, forming a safer society to live happily and developing a human society, as well as promoting industrial activities.

Test Facility Rental

JAXA would like to contribute to strengthening the competitiveness of Japanese industries by allowing other groups to use some large JAXA test facilities. Through the "Test Facility Rental System," non-JAXA people can use our facilities and test equipment by paying some fees. Private companies, universities, and research institutes who perform academic and science and technology R&D are eligible.
