Open-house Event at Chofu Aerospace Center

JAXA will hold an annual open-house event during Science Week.
You can take a look at some research facilities that are usually closed to the public. We are also preparing various events including an "interesting experience corner."

Date and time:
April 22, 2012, between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.

There are two venues:

CAC open-house event postponed

We would like to express our deepest sympathy to those who are suffering from the current large-scale disasters triggered by the Tohoku Region Pacific Ocean Coastal Earthquake. The Chofu Aerospace Center (CAC) decided to put off its open-house for our research facilities scheduled on April 17 due to the current power shortage and safety concerns for visitors. The new date will be announced on our website as soon as it is determined. We apologize for any inconvenience, and thank you very much for your understanding.

HAYABUSA special exhibition at Chofu Aerospace Center

JAXA will hold a special exhibition for the capsule and other parts of the Asteroid Explorer "HAYABUSA," which returned from space, at the Chofu Aerospace Center (CAC.)
Please take this opportunity to have a look at some parts of the retrieved HAYABUSA capsule, which traveled in space for seven years.

Date and time: between 10:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. on Oct. 2 (Sat.), 3 (Sun) (The reception will be closed at 4:00 p.m.)

[Transportation]
  • You cannot enter the CAC by car. Also, there is no public parking lot nearby. Please come to the CAC by public transportation, bicycle, or on foot.
  • For access to the CAC by train/bus

[Please be aware of the following points]
  • No photo shooting is allowed including that from mobile phones.
  • The gate of the CAC will open at 9:00 a.m., and the exhibition is scheduled to start at 10:00 a.m., thus you cannot enter the center if you arrive there before the gate opens.
  • The CAC is in the middle of a quiet residential area; therefore, we would like to strictly prohibit you coming to the CAC during the night or early morning.
  • We expect a huge crowd of visitors on both days. Please be aware that you may have to wait in line under the guidance of the staff for a long time.
  • Please also be aware that you may have to wait outside for a long time, thus we recommend you take measures in case of rain, or to prevent heat stroke if it is very hot. If you feel ill while you are waiting, please do not hesitate to tell us immediately.
  • No kiosk or cafeteria is available. Also, please be aware that there is no space available for eating and drinking even if you bring your own food.
  • We will stop accepting visitors at 4:00 p.m. Please enter the CAC before 4:00 p.m.
  • We hope that as many people as possible can look at the capsule. Your understanding and cooperation will be greatly appreciated.

Open-air exhibition of YS-11 cockpit at CAC

JAXA is using a cockpit of a retired YS-11 (Fuselage number YS-11-118) for our current research.
We started to exhibit the YS-11 cockpit outside at the Chofu Aerospace Center.

Sky Day & Space Day 2009 Event

Sky Day & Space Day 2009 Event We will hold Art Contest for young children / lementary school students and prepare Handicraft Corner for elementary school students as a memorial to Sky Day & Space Day 2009 Event in September.

Art Contest: Theme "Flying vehicles of the future"
Let's draw your own picture along the theme!!
Eligibility for entry : young children (ages 4 and older) and elementary school students
Deadline of the Entry : August 31st (Mon) 2009 (as indicated by the postmark on the envelope)
Number of entry : one picture per person
Entry procedure : Send your work in B4 size(about 257mmx364mm, made with colored pencils, crayons, paints and so on.) to the following address.
Write down title, full name, age, address, phone number, school name and school grade on the reverse side.
Prize : Prize winners will be awarded a certificate of merit and extra prize. Every participant will receive a participation prize.
Result announcement : Prize winners will be informed directly
Award ceremony : September 21st 2009 (public holiday) 10:00 - 10:30

Open-house Event at Chofu Aerospace Center

JAXA will hold an open-house event at the Chofu Aerospace Center on April 19 (Sun) during Science Week (April 13 thru 19.) We will prepare various activities. At the handcraft corner, you will have a chance to make a paper glider, and at the interesting experiment corner, you will find various classes such as a class for making an engine, and simulators for a sonic boom and an airship. Please come and join us.
